A Very French Manicure

The Paris shows might be well behind us, but here’s a little beauty pampering we just caught wind of that we fully plan on partaking in the next time we touch down at CDG airport. The Pavillon de la Reine, a posh 54-bedroom boutique hotel nestled in the Marais, has started offering manicures every Saturday in its red-satin-hued bibliothèque. A nail bar is set up among the oil paintings and tapestries and aestheticians from the hotel’s Spa de la Reine by Carita buff, shape, and polish your nails, using lacquers from OPI (alas not Chanel, but perhaps you can bring your own bottle). While you wait for your nails to dry, you can peruse books from literary greats or just settle in with the latest Paris Match, and enjoy a flaky croissant and glass of Champagne while you’re at it. The best part: In a city where luxury can cost a pretty penny, this haven of relaxation can be enjoyed for a wee €25 (around $33) without advance reservations, as the nail bar is open to non-guests of the hotel, too. Let us say, merci beaucoup.

Priti Goes Portable

Something about frequent travel can make a klutz out of even the most composed individual. Clothes get wrinkled, hot beverages spilled, manicures get chipped. General rushing, nervous pre-flight nibbling, and carting bulky luggage around can wreak havoc on your precisely polished tips—which is why I’ve begun carrying a little bottle of lacquer and a few packs of polish remover pads with me on every trip. (Compulsive, no; prepared, yes). In a boon to my portable touch-up kit, Priti, New York’s favorite eco-friendly nail care brand, has just released a green version of the to-go towelette that’s 100 percent biodegradable with a soy-based, lemongrass scent. It’s EPA-approved and still manages to work wonders at removing even the most toxic of varnishes without that stinky acetone scent, which, let it be known, will not make you any friends on that overcrowded Boeing 757. —Fiorella Valdesolo
