How to Prepare your Skin for Winter

Preparing your skin for winter helps to avoid dry and flaky skin. Winter skin care is more important that summer skin care as the air and humidity cause the skin to look dull and unappealing if it is not cared for.

If you have issues with maintaining your skin in winter then here are a few tips that may prove to be beneficial.

Invest in a humidifier for your room; this will increase the moisture and keep your skin well hydrated. A humidifier will also help those who suffer from sinus congestion and nasal congestion.

You also need to make wise decisions with the soaps and body washes that you use during winter. Products that contain alcohol in them must be avoided as they reduce the moisture on the surface of the skin.

Though hot baths seem to be very appealing in winter they must be avoided. When you bathe ensure that the water is warm and not hot as hot water will reduce the natural oils from your body and cause the skin to get dry. Add hydrating oils and those that contain Vitamin A and E in your bath water to nourish your skin.

If you are going outdoors in winter then you must use a moisturizing cream on your body on all parts that are exposed to the sun. A cream or lotion that contains SPF 30 and above will prevent a sun tan and will also protect your skin from the UV rays. Use a good lip balm to protect your lips. Investing in a pair of sunglasses will also help you to protect your eyes and reduce UV exposure.

Use skin cleansers that suit your skin type. This will help you to maintain the moisture level in your skin. Use cleansing products sparingly in order to protect your skin and avoid dry skin.

Drink plenty of water in order to keep your skin well hydrated. Green tea will warm your body while the anti inflammatory properties of the tea will sooth your skin.

Winter can be a stressful time; avoid unnecessary stress. Sleep early at night in order to ensure that your body is well rested; this will have a positive impact on your health and your skin.

Skin Care In Winter

With the onset of winters, you put on layers of clothing and creams to protect your skin from harsh chills and cold winds. In winters, skin becomes dry and uncomfortably itchy.

To keep your skin healthy and fresh in winters, you need to follow extra precautions.
A bath in lukewarm water is essential to keep your skin clean and hygienic.

Bath removes the dirt and impurities which collect on your skin during the course of the day. Use a mild soap for bathing purpose as harsh soaps i.e. with fragrances and antibacterial properties can cause harm to your skin. Once you have taken the bath, quickly dry your skin with a towel and apply a moisturizer. Pick a lotion which is especially made for the body as the skin on face is different from the skin on rest of the body.

For face, pick a good moisturizer as it is the most essential to prevent your skin from damage caused by cold winds. A moisturizer with SPF 30 will help you to block the harmful sunrays as well. Preparations with more amounts of cream and water-in-oil emulsifiers are better suited for winters.

Lips become chapped during winters. You can keep your lips soft by applying a lip balm which contains moisturizer. A lip balm with vitamin E provides better elasticity. Apply the lip balm several times in a day to avoid your lips from becoming dry and chapped.Another major concern in winter is dry hands and cracked fingers.

If you work in an environment where your hands are exposed into water frequently, it can cause more harm to your hands. Once you have washed your hands, dry them with a soft towel. Apply a hand cream to make your hands soft and supple. A cream with sunscreen properties is advisable as it will protect the skin against damage from sun rays. Finger nails can become brittle and blue in winters. Moisturizing them will prevent this.

You can also apply a coat of nail paint to protect your nails form harsh chills. Lastly, keeping the body hydrated by drinking ample amount of fluids is the key to radiant and glowing skin during winters.
