Abbey Lee + Versace: breathtaking

Written by Tania Braukamper

This is the kind of look book that words can't really do justice to. The colours, the cuts, the silhouettes, the details - Versace do what Versace do best (show-stopping frocks) but for spring 2011 they span the gamut from short and sexy to breathtakingly elegant. Abbey Lee Kershaw dons a bowl-ish bob for the occasion.

No particular image or piece stands out enough to be singled out as a highlight; they're all too striking. And so the only thing we can recommend is to peruse the full look book yourself after the jump.

Leather harness: an accessory trend

Written by Tania Braukamper

Like so many other things that were only recently considered too sexually charged to comfortably see the light of day, in a few short years the leather harness has infiltrated the realms of what we consider fashionable. That may sound like a critique but I can assure you it's not; it's merely a fact. When bondage and fetish fashion first hit our trend radars back in 2009 it was all bodycon, leather, studs and chains. But it's progressed. It's moved on. It's no longer a season-defining trend as it was back then, instead it's morphed into something that remains nebulously floating around the edges - more refined, more classically-inspired, and a little more isolated from everything else that's going on.

And you know when something goes from the shelves of Coco de Mer to the runways of Hermes the shift is complete: it's no longer luxury fetish, it's just plain luxury. That's where bondage, and the leather harness in particular, has ended up. Still far from mainstream, far from over-saturation, but with enough exposure that we no longer question it as strange or outlandish. And right now, that's the best place it can be.

The leather harness in 2011

As a 2011 fashion accessory the leather harness styles best when paired with something sophisticated. Think of it as fetishised elegance: a pair of wide-leg pants (a la Abbey Lee in the below shoot), a flowing maxidress as seen on the runways of Lanvin, a pair of jodhpurs and tailored jacket, Hermes-style. And the latter point is also key: equestrian influence is strong in 2011 when it comes to the harness.

For some leather harness styling inspiration, view the photo shoot of model Abbey Lee Kershaw as photographed by Hedi Slimane for Vogue Russia's April 2011 issue.

Want to hear Abbey Lee sing?

Written by Tania Braukamper

Abbey Lee Kershaw's modelling door may be slowly creeping shut, but a music window is opening. Seemingly all by choice, too. If you miss seeing truckloads of Abbey in the pages of fashion magazines and in ad campaigns on the sides of buses, then perhaps you can get your fill by watching her play in boyfriend Matthew Hutchinson's band Our Mountain.

Abbey is scheduled perform with Our Mountain on May 3rd at 8pm, at Cake Shop in New York.

Thank you to Altamira for the heads up.

We've grown a little accustomed to seeing Abbey Lee Kershaw with grunge hair - so the styling of Numero's latest cover is a welcome reminder of just how to rock a sleek, unfussy hairstyle in 2011.
